Reptiles, being ectothermic or "cold-blooded," rely on external heat sources rather than generating their own body warmth. They need environmental heat, such as from the sun, to maintain proper bodily functions.

The Exo Terra Heat Mat serves as a substrate heater for terrariums, mimicking the natural warmth of sun-heated surfaces. It is ideal as a primary or supplementary heat source for nocturnal and crepuscular reptiles.

Size: 4" x 5", perfect for tanks between 1-5 gallons

Usage Guidelines:

The Exo Terra Heat Mat bonds permanently to the terrarium base, ensuring excellent heat distribution. It is essential to pair it with a thermostat like the Exo Terra Thermostat to regulate the basking temperature accurately.

Install the heat mat on either the far left or right side of the terrarium to establish a thermal gradient. It should occupy about one-third of the floor area. For best results, use with a shallow substrate layer (1-2"). For enclosures with deeper substrate, consider an overhead heat option like the Exo Terra Halogen Basking Spot or Ceramic Heater.

Attach rubber spacers beneath the enclosure to promote airflow around the mat and prevent potential overheating.
