Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp, 250w
Important: This bulb does not emit UVB light.
Reptiles, being ectothermic creatures, rely on external heat sources such as the sun to regulate their body temperature. This warmth is essential for digestion, overall health, and proper bodily functions. Since they cannot generate their own heat, providing an adequate heat source through specialized lamps is crucial for their well-being.
The Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp is a powerful incandescent basking bulb featuring a specialized double reflector system that concentrates 35% more light and heat compared to standard spot lamps.
The manufacturer offers a 3-month warranty on these bulbs.
Approximate bulb lifespan: 2,000 hours or a minimum of 3 months
Usage Guidelines:
Set up the Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp in a ceramic-socket dome fixture with a wattage rating higher than the bulb. If placed inside the enclosure, ensure a protective bulb cage is used to avoid direct contact burns. Position the lamp at one end of the enclosure to establish a temperature gradient. For larger reptiles, using multiple bulbs together is advised for uniform heating.
To extend the bulb’s life, handle it with gloves during installation to avoid transferring skin oils to the glass. Minimize movement or shaking, particularly when the lamp is in use.
For optimal performance, monitor the basking area temperature with the Zoo Med Digital Thermometer. Place the thermometer probe directly on the basking spot for precise readings. If the area is too cold, opt for a bulb with higher wattage; if too warm, a plug-in dimmer can help adjust the output.
For enhanced durability, connect the bulb to a surge protector such as the Zilla 24/7 Digital Timer Power Center.
Note: The Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp emits a focused narrow beam. Keep it at least 8" away from your reptile to avoid hazardous hot spots that could cause burns. For reptiles longer than 8" (snout to vent) or with an 8" coiled diameter, using several bulbs in close proximity is recommended to ensure even heating, supporting proper circulation and thermoregulation.
