Reptiles require a combination of heat, UVB light, and bright visible light in their enclosures to stay healthy and active. As ectothermic creatures, they rely on external heat sources, such as sunlight, to regulate their body temperature. This warmth is essential for digestion, bodily functions, and overall well-being. Since they cannot generate their own heat, it’s crucial to provide heat through specialized lamps.

UVB light, a vital component of natural sunlight, is necessary for most reptiles. It supports strong bone health and contributes to various critical physiological processes.

The Zoo Med PowerSun UV is a self-ballasted mercury vapor bulb that delivers UVA, UVB, and heat in a single unit! This innovative lamp closely mimics natural sunlight, offering a comprehensive lighting solution for your reptile.

Usage Guidelines:

Mount the Zoo Med PowerSun UV in a wire lamp fixture to avoid overheating. Position the lamp on one side of the terrarium to establish a proper temperature gradient. Refer to the UVI chart provided to adjust the lamp’s distance from the basking spot based on your reptile’s UVB requirements. You might need an additional heat source, such as the Zoo Med Repti Tuff Halogen Lamp, to reach the ideal basking temperature for your pet.

Replace the Zoo Med PowerSun UV bulb every 6 months to ensure optimal performance. For accurate monitoring, pair it with a Zoo Med Digital UV Index Radiometer or Solarmeter 6.5.
