Zoo Med PowerSun UV 100w
Reptiles require a combination of heat, UVB light, and bright visible light in their environment to stay healthy and flourish. As ectothermic creatures, reptiles rely on external heat sources, such as sunlight, to regulate their body temperature. This warmth is crucial for digestion, overall bodily functions, and maintaining optimal health. Since they cannot generate their own heat, it's essential to provide them with heat through specialized lamps.
UVB, a vital component of natural sunlight, is necessary for the well-being of nearly all reptiles. It supports strong and healthy bones and contributes to various other important physiological processes.
The Zoo Med PowerSun UV is a self-ballasted mercury vapor bulb that delivers UVA, UVB, and heat in a single unit! By combining multiple light wavelengths, this bulb closely mimics natural sunlight, offering an ideal solution for your reptile's needs.
Usage Guidelines:
Mount the Zoo Med PowerSun UV in a wire lamp fixture to avoid overheating issues. Position the lamp on one end of the terrarium to establish a proper temperature gradient. Refer to the UVI chart provided to adjust the lamp's distance from the basking spot based on your reptile's specific UVB requirements. If needed, an additional heat source like the Zoo Med Repti Tuff Halogen Lamp can be used to reach the desired basking temperature.
Ensure optimal performance by replacing the Zoo Med PowerSun UV every 6 months. For accurate monitoring, pair it with a Zoo Med Digital UV Index Radiometer or a Solarmeter 6.5 available at shop.morphmarket.com.

Reptiles have varying UVB needs. Consult the Arcadia UV Index Lighting Guide to find the appropriate UVI for your pet's basking zone.
Distance is calculated from the bulb tip to the basking area or reptile. UVI values are estimates and may decrease by 30-40% when the bulb is placed over a mesh screen.
