*PLEASE NOTE: OUR SMALL HORNWORMS ARE SHIPPED AS EGGS OR TINY LARVAE AND WILL NOT GROW AS LARGE AS OUR MEDIUM SIZE. THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR SMALL PETS. YOU MIGHT NOT SEE THE EGGS OR SMALL WORMS IN THE CUP UPON ARRIVAL. WE SHIP THEM SMALL TO ENSURE THEY ARE SUITABLE FOR TINY PETS, AS HORNWORMS GROW RAPIDLY, AND DELAYS IN SHIPPING COULD RESULT IN THEM BECOMING TOO BIG IF SENT AS LARGER WORMS.

IMPORTANT: These small hornworms are packed in an 8oz “economy” cup, unique to our store. They are not intended to grow significantly in this container, so we recommend feeding them to your pet promptly to prevent overgrowth or food depletion.

Hornworms are the larval stage of the Hawk Moth, also known as the Sphinx Moth (Manduca sexta). In nature, they consume leaves of plants like tomatoes, eggplants, and tobacco, often becoming garden pests. In captivity, however, they serve as excellent nutrition for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that eat insects.

CAUTION: Avoid feeding wild hornworms to your pets, as the toxic plants they consume in the wild can harm your animals!

How frequently should hornworms be fed to pets?

Hornworms can be a regular part of your pet’s diet, but they should not be the sole food source. A balanced diet with more variety, including other insects, ensures proper nutrition. Hornworms have less protein and fiber, so overfeeding can lead to loose stools. A diverse insect diet will support better health and digestion.

Is calcium dusting necessary for hornworms?

Hornworms naturally have a favorable calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, so there’s no need to dust them with calcium supplements before feeding.

Guidelines for hornworm care:

Each cup includes 12-24 worms and sufficient food to grow them to 1-2 inches in about a week. They start small but develop quickly!

The cup serves as a complete habitat for hornworms. Upon arrival, invert the cup so the lid is at the bottom. The worms will move up to the food via the screen, and waste will collect on the lid for simple cleanup. Ensure the lid has ventilation for proper air circulation.

We ship smaller worms to give you a fresh batch and control over their growth rate. For rapid growth, maintain a temperature above 80°F; for moderate growth, keep at 72°F; for slower development, store at 50°F.
