*NOTE: THE SIZE OF HORNWORMS SHIPPED MAY DIFFER FROM THE IMAGE DISPLAYED ABOVE.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We prioritize shipping smaller worms to ensure they survive transit better and give you control over when to feed them. Smaller worms indicate a fresher batch. Hornworms grow rapidly, so even if they arrive small, they will reach a larger size soon. Choosing Large over Medium ensures more food is included to support their growth.

Our 12-count medium hornworms are packed in a compact 8oz cup, an economical choice unique to our store. These are designed for quick feeding as they aren’t meant to grow significantly in this container or sustain prolonged storage without running out of food.

Hornworms, the larvae of the Hawk Moth (Manduca sexta), are known in nature for consuming leaves of plants like tomatoes, eggplants, and tobacco, often becoming garden pests. In captivity, they serve as excellent nourishment for reptiles, amphibians, and certain invertebrates that eat insects.

Nutritional Breakdown:

  • Moisture — 85%
  • Protein — 9%
  • Fat — 3.1%

WARNING: Do not feed wild-caught hornworms to your pets, as their natural diet includes toxic plants that can harm your animals!

How frequently should hornworms be fed?

Hornworms can be a regular part of your pet’s diet, but they shouldn’t be the sole food source. Balancing their intake with other insects ensures proper nutrition. Since hornworms have less protein and fiber, overfeeding can cause loose stools. A diverse diet with hornworms as an occasional treat will maintain your pet’s health and normal digestion.

Is calcium dusting necessary for hornworms?

Hornworms possess a favorable calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, so there’s no need to dust them with calcium supplements before feeding.

Guidelines for hornworm care:

Each container holds 12-24 worms along with sufficient food to grow them to 1.5-2" within a week. They may arrive small, but their growth rate is impressive!

The provided cup acts as a complete habitat for hornworms. Upon arrival, invert the cup so the lid is at the bottom. The worms will move upward to the food, and waste will collect on the lid for easy removal. Ensure the lid has ventilation for proper air circulation.

We ship smaller worms to guarantee freshness and allow you to control their growth rate. For rapid growth, maintain a temperature above 80°F; for moderate growth, keep at 72°F; and for slower development, store at 50°F.
